This is the inaugural piece in a series which I am recording in order to further engage with The Thirty-two Keys system as transmitted by esoteric cartographer David Chaim Smith.

The primary version of each piece in this series will feature heavy sampling from lectures David has given on each of the keys. After having read the text and listened to the lecture corresponding to a given key, I set about re-listening to the lecture and pulling out what resonated with me most and could fit comfortably over a 12-15 minute piece of music. Musically, each piece in this series will be interpretive and interpolative of classical and baroque musics which both David and I find sublime and supportive of transmitting a particular view. An instrumental version will also be made available of each piece in the series.

The Thirty-Two Keys is a system of 32 symbolic images printed as a set of separate contemplation cards and a highly detailed explanatory book. The material offers a structural overview of the path of contemplative mysticism based on the non-emanationist interpretation of the Kabbalah. It provides a rare opportunity to put the material to work through a set of daily exercises configured for a 288-day training period. The system is a true amalgam of sources that span eight centuries, unified as a single vision. The depth of its view and methodology make The Thirty-two Keys a truly powerful tool for study and practice that is unique.
